We look forward to 2023 filled with great opportunities, good health, and happiness for all our members and their families. A well-earned break for the Committee and activity volunteer coordinators. Xmas Party: Our annual end of year Christmas celebration (subsidised by CWS) took place at the Maroochy River Golf Club with 26 enthusiastic mini golfers testing their skills. Great opportunity for members from our various groups to meet and mingle. A fun night with pizza, lots of laughs and many holes in one. Look out golfers. CWS Social outing: Menopause the Musical at The J Theatre, Noosa Junction. Thirteen members made it to the rescheduled show. Dinner at Mr Drifter, then the show, very cleverly done with great humour, lots of laughs & great company, (social outings such as this, can take place for special shows or events – we put out an expression of interest to members, purchase tickets, then members usually book and pay on Hello Club). Hello Club: Activities, meetups and workshops (schedules & bookings): REMINDER always book & pay on Hello Club, if you are unsure how to do this ask your activity volunteer coordinator or a member of the Committee. Remember to check the FEED as well as the CHATS for general CWS updates and information. See you in 2023, kind regards Deilia President CWS Greetings. Our AGM took place in September and the new Management Committee is hard at work. I am enjoying the role of President and would like to acknowledge the outgoing Committee for their great work & contributions to the development of CWS. We will ensure CWS continues to provide opportunities for Connection through Recreation for our members. Much work is undertaken behind the scenes, which may go unnoticed but is vitally important to maintain & develop CWS into a strong & vibrant community-based organisation. I look forward to meeting more members and working with you all to ensure we share & learn new skills, try new activities, make friends and above all, have fun.!! Deilia Murray. Activities, meetups and workshops (scheduled booked): reminder to always book on Hello Club and that we endeavour to run these activities with 2 volunteer coordinators to support and supervise the activity (we aim for 3). This is a safety measure that forms part of our risk management process. If you are interested in becoming an activity volunteer coordinator please contact Deilia. Band: (chat platform for each of our groups) when you become a member you can then access Band after you receive an invite to that group. Remember to check the FEED as well as the CHATS for general CWS updates and information. The book pack service costs CWS over $100 a year per club. Walking group: every Tuesday a group of very keen women enjoy the varied walks. The coffee is always a treat at the end. The November Away Walk will be held on Tues 8 Nov, further information will be posted on Hello Club Walk Group. Sketchy gals: drawing meetup; interested getting started in drawing or specific techniques? Beginners welcome to this self-paced group, each meeting will have a basic topic. You can bring your own project or suggest tutorials or activities. BYO materials. Donation: recently we received a donation of $605 from a Sunshine Coast Council Senior Engineer. He raises funds for community groups and Not for Profits, during September it was Womens Health Week, so he chose Coolum Women’s Shed. We were delighted to receive this unexpected and generous donation. Tool Shed: what a great job Sheddies are doing - handmade name installed above roller door, repurposed rolling cabinets for power tools work benches, stand for outside sink, repair kitchen cupboard door and the mosaic letterbox is almost complete. Sessions currently: - A meetup is an informal session that can be self-directed or you can join in with projects we are working on. You can use equipment and scraps for small projects but for larger ones you need to source your own materials. Please do not use any equipment alone and without familiarising yourself with the safety instructions and the manual (all kept in the folder at the shed). As we progress, a record of Inductions and Tool competencies will be developed. CWS furniture: we have acquired another Poang chair and now have a spare couch to give away, the one in the main hall of the Community Centre. If you are interested, please chat to a Management Committee member. Coolum Men’s Shed: Saturday 29 Oct 9.30am, celebrations for their 10-year anniversary. Along with a dedication of a Memorial Garden for past members, there will be a garage sale and morning tea. CWS have been invited to this whole day event. First Fridays Social Meetup: on hold until next year. Even though this is a social gathering we need 2 volunteers to organise, check the CWS bookings and lead the evening get-togethers. If you are interested in taking on this role, please let one of the management committee know Xmas celebration: Yes Xmas is coming and we will be organising an activity/celebration for our members, possibly early December, details to come. Thankyou Deilia M. Hi ladies, (If you get this email twice it's because you are on our general email list and our membership list - please unsubscribe at the bottom of the mail!) We got a lovely surprise this month when we received a donation of $250 from the Shop in Coolum - they sell second hand books as a fundraiser and our walking group meets there for coffee most Tuesdays after their walk. It's a beautiful gesture, we feel really lucky they thought of us. Talking of coffee, we were also really excited this month as Simon Hemmings from Right Electrical Services delivered a bean to cup coffee machine that he has kindly lent us. He got a cheer as he left - not sure what that says about our previous coffee :-) This month at drawing for beginners we got messy with charcoal, and used some of the basics we have been covering - perception of edges, use of negative space and the basic unit. After a bit of a break in activities due to the lockdown, we are back - here is the latest on what's coming up. Resistance training - another class added for absolute beginners- now's your chance! Do you hate the idea of going to a sweaty gym with people shouting at you to do 'just one more'? So do we, but we know that resistance training is good for us. Luckily Robyn's resistance classes are small groups of sheddies, held at her own studio. Each session Robyn comes up with a new thing to do, that works a different part of your body. It's never boring, and no, she doesn't shout at you ;-) In fact if you like your gym sessions to be more laughing than heavy lifting, we really recommend you come along. Don't worry we still have to work - it's just easier when you are with your sheddie friends. Previous participants get first refusal for that slot next term. If you can't make a particular session you might be able to swap with people on one of the other days. Groups are a maximum of 6. We will need a minimum of four to run the class. Have a try session this Wednesday 28th April 1.30pm at Robyn's studio in Coolum ($15) : https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=22349549 Term 2 block booking $108 ($12 per session) : https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=22349765 Social meetup - first Friday of the month - 6pm 7th May at Peregian Beach Hotel. We are sticking this in the diary so it has a chance to happen ;-). Check the calendar for the location .No need to book. Online calendar: https://www.thewomensshed.org/calendar.html Frocks, Feedback and Fun - 2pm 20th June We are rolling together a few activities for our member meetup on the 20th June. It's a chance to have an afternoon of fun with the other sheddies, find out what's going on, discuss ideas and even take home some new clothes! Activities include:
$15 book here: https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=22350301 Women on Weyba Division 9 councillor Maria Suarez has kicked off our paddling group with $1300 towards 2 kayaks and the kits to get them on the car roofs. We are on the lookout for 2 second hand ozpaddle enduro kayaks - the standout winner from our trial morning on the Lake. Please let us know if you have any connections or kit to donate. Keep your eyes open for another 'have a try' session soon. We have capacity for another coordinator if you would be interested in organising very early sessions (Nell is not an early bird ;-) ). - it can be as simple as letting Ric know that you are planning to go out and we can let other members book in to come with you (for members that have their own kayaks/sups). Dragon ladies The Loose Ends crew have formed a team to yarn bomb a tree for the Maleny Knitfest in early July. The theme is 'A dragon in my garden'. Yarnbombing is when you cover everyday objects in crochet and knit fabric. The entry fee of $5 pp will cover our entry and use of the shed for future making meetups (alternate Thursdays to current Loose Ends, although there is bound to be some overlap). Even if you can't make it to the shed you can join in from home - they are in the initial planning sessions at the moment - the more the merrier! First meetup this Thursday - April 29th 11 am : book here https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=22317455 We will almost definitely need some wool, so this is a great chance to destash your stash! Mosaics Meetup Our intro to mosaics workshops have been really successful - we have a waiting list set up for the next one - please email [email protected] if you would like to be added to the waitlist. People that have attended the intro are able to join Annie on the 4th Tuesday of the month for a mosaic meetup. $15 covers the 10-1 session and (reasonable) use of materials and equipment. This Tuesday it's $5 and we are meeting at the shed to go through what you will be looking at and then it's carpool to an amazing mosaic store on the coast. Please book here: https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=20329784 Saturday Studio Meetup If you want to work on your own projects you can also join us for 'Studio meetup' on the 2nd Saturday of each month - you are welcome to work on anything as long as you tidy up after yourself. We will be playing with bleach tie dye effects this month (bring dark clothes if you want to join in) (We used to call this messy play, but people thought it was for kids :-) ) $15 covers the 10-3 session and (reasonable) use of materials and equipment. Book here: https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=14971266. Pottery Update The pottery wheel fundraiser is nearly halfway there - we have reached $440 so far and had great feedback. Nell can be flexible with timings so if you want to do a time slot at a different time please contact us at [email protected]. Book here for the two person session: https://coolumwomensshed.as.me/?appointmentType=19842654 Call for the stall Do you enjoy making but are you running out of space for your creations? Or are you about to make something, and you could make an extra one as you go? Please consider donating some items for us to sell the next time we have a market stall or sausage sizzle. One of our new volunteers mentioned fundraising by selling at the markets - it's a great idea but we don't want to pressure everyone into making things at the last minute. So if you can keep us in mind and start making a few things when you have time, hopefully we will have a corker of a stall when the time comes. Feel free to drop items into the shed as they are made. That's all for now- have a great weekend! xx |
