Lot's of fun coming up this week!

Hi Sheddies,

If you are currently receiving two copies of this email, it is because we send an update to our members, and another one to people that have signed up for a newsletter via our website. Sometimes we only send updates to members - if you want to stop receiving this additional copy, just unsubscribe at the end of this email.

Last week was a bit of a landmark moment for us, as we signed a sub-lease with the Coolum Men's Shed for an 888m plot behind the Community Centre.  We have signed contracts to get a storage shed up on the higher ground, and are seeking funds for woodworking and ceramics equipment to put in it. Once finished we will have a place to store our equipment and a covered outdoor space better suited for activities such as woodwork, ceramics and mosaics.

There will be time later to think about what we want to do with the rest of the space - so get thinking about what would work for you! If you have experience in building design, planning, construction, landscaping, fundraising or philanthropy we need your help! Please get in touch if you think you are able to contribute.

It's also been great to see more activities being organised over on our Band App - a trip to the circus, lunch out in Marcoola, a trip to a crochet shop and beginning runners club (Wednesdays mornings).  If you want to keep in the loop with these activities organised by other members, then the Band App is where it's happening. Most things get onto the calendar, but casual activities tend to start up on Band.

The photos below show Kaia sorting the mosiac ready for our workshop, Annie rocking the mini macrame plant pot earrings made for her by Simone, Simone's slab pottery plant pot and Nell's experiments with bleach tie dye.

Change of name - due to feedback that 'messy play' sounds like it's aimed at toddlers we will have renamed this 'Studio Meetup' .... This member meetup on the 2nd Saturday of the month is meant as an option for extended studio time - just turn up and do whatever it is you wanted to do, away from distraction and in good company :-)

Member Survey
Thank you to those of you that have responded to the survey. We are asking members to wear their membership id at the shed, so that people can see our names. Membership cards and Lanyards are available at the shed - just pick up when you next visit  . If you haven't already done so, please complete our very short survey as this will help the committee plan the year ahead - it's anonymous. The survey is open to non-members and members and can be accessed here . https://www.thewomensshed.org/2020-survey.html

Keeping up with what's on
  • Don't rely on facebook - it takes a long time to get all the activities on and up to date. Facebook is our way of showing non members what we do, and we don't always have the time to keep it up to date. Facebook wants us to pay them to show you our info, and that makes Nell grumpy ;-)
  • Newsletter - when we have time- we have had good feedback about the newsletter - but it takes a while to put together (about 3 hours!!) . We will try our best ;-)
  • Website - if it's up for general booking, it's available on the website.
  • Our Band App is private only to members, includes a calendar and you can ask questions about what's coming up. It works well on phones and tablets. You can also contact other members via the chat option.
  • We have just started a 6 month trial with meetup as it seems to offer a lot of info to people with shared interests, check it out here: https://www.meetup.com/coolum-womens-shed-hobbies-health-and-social-group/events/calendar/

HELP needed!
  • If you have skills in Facebook or Instagram, we would love some help - especially in making sure our Facebook events are setup to match the calendar.
  • Woodwork coordinator - we have had someone come forward - if anyone would like to share this role please get in touch. If you are passionate about making things we are still looking for someone (or two peeps) who can put their hands up to organise woodwork/maker sessions. We have some tools, we have some ideas, but we need someone to be that person who takes responsibility.  You can choose the frequency and timing of the session, so even if you just want to organise 'one-off' workshops or a monthly meetup, lets talk :-).
  • Touch Footy Coordinator - we are looking at putting a team together for next season (Sep/October) we might organise some meetups during winter to up our fitness and learn some of the rules!
  • Legal guidance - as our projects get bigger we are asked to sign contracts and agreements - are you someone that has the right skill set?
  • Fundraisers-can you teach us some inside tips on how to fund the Women's Shed? Or do you have the connections to run a one-off fundraiser? Any other ideas?
  • PR and Marketing - Help us get the word out about the Women's Shed.
  • Admin - if you have a home computer and internet we can find something for you to do!!
Please email us if you are able to help out for these roles or any other ways you might want to help.
 General Info
We will be publishing a printable planner as things are finalised. If you want direct access to our live calendar you can view it here .You can also add it to your own calendar app with this ics link . https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/cwsroster%40gmail.com/public/basic.ics

Bookings are required for all our activities, the booking page is on the website : https://www.thewomensshed.org/bookings.html.
NB we require a minimum of 4 bookings to run an activity, and volunteers may reschedule if we can't see that you are booked in - so please don't leave booking until the last minute.
Current members can arrange to meetup via our Band App. It's like Facebook without the ads. We have also created a members only Facebook group for members that prefer FB. You can join it here
:-)
Don't forget we also have some yoga classes and a meditation that you can access anytime on the members section of our website. If you have forgotten your login, just ask for a new password with the email address you registered with us.
