This chapter is the story of Vasalisa the wise the young girl who is forced to go into the woods and retrieve fire for her home from the witch Baba Yaga. Vasalisa finds Baba Yaga and performs all the things that is asked of her with the help of a little pocket doll that Vasalisa's mother gave her before she dies. Vasalisa is then given the fire and returns home. (Very basic synopsis)

Hi Everyone as promised I would like to put some thought provoking questions out there for us to think about. I love this chapter as Clarissa Pinkola Estes breaks it down into 9 tasks to help us connect, hear and nourish our inner voice, our intuition.

The first task- Allowing the too Good-mother to die.
The too Good Mother being the instincts and knowing that we have learnt from the people in our life so far, the foundation on which we trust this life and feel protected with. Letting this die is not about no longer honouring it but knowing that we need to develop our own instinctual nature to help us in our life as we journey through it.
This task for me is about trusting in myself even if it means ruffling other peoples feathers. Sometimes society can hold us to account and if you don't agree you can feel alone or isolated for being and feeling differently. It is about getting out of your comfort zone and not always agreeing or going with what everyone else wants. By allowing myself to be true to myself I can start to trust and develop my own intuition.
  • Why do we say Yes when we want to say No?
  • What do we do because it is expected instead of because we want to or feel passionately about it?
  • How do we justify saying yes and doing things that we are uncomfortable with or feel like it is not aligned with our morals? What things have you learnt from people in your life that you question or feel like it doesn't fit in how you see, experience or live this life?
  • What cultural foundations have you second guessing yourself?
Wow I didn't know I had so much to say! Please this is just my opinion and welcome other differing opinions and rebuttal. Happy Listening,

Renee
