Volunteers Info

Our mission is to connect women of Coolum and surrounding areas through the medium of a variety of activities including exercise, crafts, arts, diy and games to facilitate learning of skills and creation of a social network. We aim to increase participation by offering reasonably priced or subsidised activities. We are not here to ‘undercut’ local businesses, in fact many women are introduced to local businesses through our activities.

The Management Committee is responsible for governance and strategic development.  More information about the Management Committee can be found here.

The day to day operations of the Shed are managed through Activity Group coordinators and Admin Coordinators.

Activity Group coordinators – have an interest in establishing a regular meetup of people interested in a specific activity e.g. walking, craft.  Ideally each group needs a minimum of two coordinators to share responsibility and enable the group to continue when one of them can’t attend. Group coordinators are volunteers that are willing to take responsibility for:
  • Organising regular activities or workshops
  • Checking in attendees, welcoming new people to the group, and setting them up with what they need to know
  • Following shed protocols  for using the building (sign in sheets, ensuring place is locked up etc)
  • Explaining to potential members how they can become a member.
  • Being proactive about organising regular meetups – e.g. setting dates, liaising with management about roster, social media.

Admin coordinators – already have or are interested in developing the skills needed to support the activities of the shed. There are many and varied tasks that can be managed by one or several members. A list of these tasks can be found here.  We particularly need help in the following areas.
  • Workshops coordinator
  • Membership coordinator
  • Website developer
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Project management
  • IT support

More details on these roles can be found here

Admin coordinators have flexibility about when and where they can perform their roles – most of the admin can be done from home. We will give training to admin coordinators, but a basic level of computer literacy would be an advantage. Admin coordinators ideally have had prior experience in similar settings and are therefore able to manage their own activities.
If you would like to help, drop us a line by completing the attached form to let us know where your interests lie.
